Numerical Modelling of Coupled Problems in Applied Physics with OpenFOAM (NUMAP-FOAM) Summer School 2013 at the University of Zagreb
Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture
Zagreb, Croatia; 28 August - 11 September 2013

Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Zagreb, Croatia, announces the Sixth edition of the Summer School on Modelling of Coupled Problems in Applied Physics with OpenFOAM (NUMAP-FOAM) for graduate students and young researchers in Zagreb in August and September 2013. The Programme Chairs are Professor Zdravko Terze and Professor Hrvoje Jasak.

Description
The Summer School aims to provide tuition at expert level for a small and selected group of students and researchers in academia and industry. The idea of the Summer School is to expand the physical modelling knowledge, numerics and programming skills of attendees using OpenFOAM in their research through direct supervision and one-to-one project work. Lectures on chosen topics of mathematical and numerical modelling pertinent to coupled problems in engineering and applied physics will be delivered in addition. For further references, please contact the organisers or one of 70 alumni of previous four editions of the Summer School.

To ensure quality of work and supervision, the number of places is strictly limited.

Place and Time
The 2013 season of NUMAP-FOAM shall operate on a slightly modified programme compared to previous years. The School shall work in two groups of 7 attendees: the Summer programme shall take place between Wednesday 28 August 2013 and Wednesday 11 September 2013, inclusive (11 working days). This will be followed by the Winter programme of NUMAP-FOAM, offered in January 2014, with dates to be confirmed for new projects or continuation of the summer work. The School shall be held at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, University of Zagreb, Ivana Lučića 5, Zagreb, Croatia.

Topic Areas
Two main topics areas shall be offered, to concentrate the work. On programming and numerics, preference shall be given to project which required complex programming tasks in OpenFOAM and advanced C++ and software engineering skills. On physical modelling side, projects involving multi-phase and free surface flows are of interest, irrespective of the modelling paradigm chosen by the candidate. Do not hesitate to apply if you feel you have a particularly interesting "off-topic" project.

How to Apply: OpenFOAM Summer School 2013
To apply, please write a one-page description of the project you wish to work on, with current problems and goals to be achieved at the Summer School. Application is open to all students on graduate University courses, as well as young researchers in companies and government organisations with sufficient prior OpenFOAM knowledge.
Please note this is NOT an introductory OpenFOAM course: significant understanding of the project and software is a pre-requisite for application.
Deadline for application is 1 May 2013. Successful candidates will be informed within three weeks of closing.

Accommodation and Costs
Attendees to the Summer School should plan to cover their travel and accommodation expenses, ideally bringing a laptop computer with them. A registration fee for the Summer School is EUR 1650 per attendee.
