International Master of Science Programme: Sustainable Energy Engineering

In brief: Sustainable Energy Engineering is a International Master of Science Degree Program with two parallel study majors, both having a strong environmental focus: Sustainable Energy Utilization in the Built Environment and Sustainable Power Generation .

The program is carried out by The D epartment of thermodynamics, thermal and process engineering and Power Engineering Department , at Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture , University of Zagreb (link samo za FSB) , within the Tempus Joint European Project in a close cooperation with the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) (www.egi.kth.se), Stockholm, Sweden, which has already successfully established the international SEE program similar to the present one, as well as with other consortium member universities: University of Rijeka, Croatia, University of Split, Croatia and University of Padova, Italy

OBJECTIVES

Consisting of the introductory general courses followed by two parallel majors with the advanced courses, the MSc SEE program provides basic and advanced state-of-the-art education in the fields of power generation and energy utilization in the built environment by means of economically and environmentally sustainable systems and technologies . The program is focused on the technical and economical aspects of application of both conventional and renewable energy technologies as well as of relevant policies and practices with the final aim of providing and utilizing energy at least financial, environmental and social cost. Advanced methods are applied in practical design and modelling of the thermal systems, construction of relevant devices, as well as for their performance evaluation during operation and assessment of the environmental impact. Throughout various project work assignments students will have opportunity to obtain proficiency in solving real problems carried out in the collaboration with experts from companies, services and enterprises. The MSc SEE program includes a number of study visits to the power and refrigeration plants, factories and other facilities relevant to the program objectives in both Croatia and neighbouring countries.

Total duration of the taught courses is 9 months corresponding to 60 ECTS credits (one week of full time studies corresponds to 1,5 ECTS credits) followed by five months reserved for thesis project work accounting for 30 ECTS credits. The program is offered to the applicants from all over the world with suitable academic background holding degrees equivalent to at least 8 semester of study . The program language is English. Successful completion of the program leads to obtaining the degree of Master of Science with specialization in Sustainable Energy Engineering.
